Charcoal for grill

Charcoal:
manufacturing process

The wood coming from sawmills is sawn into approximately 40 cm long pieces on an automatic sawing machine. It is then brought to approximately 15% humidity after drying.

The wood is then introduced into Skips at the top of charcoal kilns, consisting of steel and stainless steel cylinders. This carbonisation process operates continuously 24 hours a day.

The wood, tipped into a loading hole, enters the kiln. It gradually travels downwards and carbonises in an area heated to a high temperature, then whilst continuing downwards, it is cooled by blowing in cold gas.

At the bottom of the kilns, a quantity of charcoal is extracted which is transported on conveyor belts, for dust removal and calibration, before being stored then packed, in small bags for the end-user, on pallets in the bagging workshop.

The baking fumes released during carbonisation are destroyed by incineration.

Charcoal: composition

The continuous manufacturing process, that has existed for over one and half centuries, is particularly well controlled and optimised. Thanks to permanent controls, it produces an equal quality finished product.

The coal produced by Groupe Bordet - Maîtres Feux is very pure: it has a fixed carbon content greater than 80% and contains few volatile materials (10%).

Volatile materials make it easier to light, whereas the high level of fixed carbon guarantees a high calorific value for grilled meat.

Charcoal bagging

The bags of charcoal are grouped on exchangeable Europ pallets.

The pallets are shrink-wrapped, thus guaranteeing perfect watertightness for outside storage.
